2018 History Festival registrations now open

Registrations for South Australia’s annual History Festival 2018 program are now open.
The 2017 Festival hosted approximately 350 event organisers presenting almost 600 events across the state and had an overall attendance of 125,000 people. 2018 will be the 15th History Festival and this anniversary will be celebrated with a special weekend devoted to exploring our built heritage on 28 – 29 April.
By design, the History Festival has always had a vast and expansive variety of activities, tours and engaging opportunities for South Australians to immerse themselves in the History of this great state. The 2017 Festival brought us the history of ‘grog’ at sea, countless tours of historical buildings, sites and landmarks, a look into the evidence surrounding the mystery of the Somerton Man and many other priceless experiences over the 31 days. From songs to slide-shows, bus tours to bushwalks and in venues ranging from galleries to graveyards, the events are always fascinating.
History Trust of South Australia Chief Executive, Greg Mackie said he is thrilled to see so many people embracing the Festival and exploring the history of our state.
“The History Festival has become a fixture on the calendar in May, I can’t wait to see what new events and experiences our presenters organise for 2018.”
“Our aim has always been to bring the people of South Australia closer to history and give them a chance to explore their links between our past and present.”
“You can only ever truly know who you are and where you’re going if you know where you’re from.”
The History Festival team has also organized a series of community workshops around SA for event organisers to learn more about being part of the action in 2018. Details can be found on the website.
Online registrations to participate in the 2018 Festival are open to individuals and organisations wishing to promote South Australia’s wonderful stories, places and collections. From heritage organisations, museums, archives, community and cultural organisations to universities, libraries and schools as well as churches, galleries, businesses, cemeteries, gardens, government agencies and owners of heritage-listed places, if your community has a story to tell, this is the perfect opportunity to share it.
All events are listed on the History Festival website and in the printed program which will be distributed state-wide through The Advertiser in April. Registrations close on 13 February 2018, so register now at historyfestival.sa.gov.au to secure your spot in this year’s History Festival program.
