Two more weeks for early bird History Festival prices


Those wanting to participate in the 2018 History Festival have two more weeks to register their events at reduced early bird prices. Event organisers have until 5pm on Friday 2 February to snap up the special.

Registrations opened in November 2017, and with registrations coming in from all around the state, already the month-long festivities in May are shaping up to be something special

The 2017 Festival hosted approximately 350 event organisers presenting almost 600 events across the state and had an overall attendance of 125,000 people. It brought us the history of ‘grog’ at sea, countless tours of historical buildings, sites and landmarks, a look into the evidence surrounding the mystery of the Somerton Man and many other priceless experiences over the 31 days. From songs to slide-shows, bus tours to bushwalks and in venues ranging from galleries to graveyards, the events are always fascinating.

2018 will be the 15th History Festival and this anniversary will be celebrated with a special weekend devoted to exploring our built heritage on 28 – 29 April. The Open Doors weekend will focus on South Australia’s stunning buildings and architectural history and is the perfect opportunity for heritage building owners to open up their doors, and share all the fascinating and intriguing stories. Hosting tours, talks, children’s activities, displays or handouts are just some of the ways you can participate in the weekend.

’Every organisation has a history, and the History Festival is the perfect opportunity to share yours with the people of South Australia,’ says Allison Russell, Director of the History Festival. ‘We welcome all kinds of organisations into the Festival: museums and libraries, of course, but also sporting clubs, RSLs, CWAs, schools, owners of heritage- listed places, aged care providers, businesses and artists.’

Online registrations to participate in the 2018 Festival are open to individuals and organisations wishing to promote South Australia’s unique stories, places and collections.

All events are listed on the History Festival website and in the printed program which will be distributed state-wide through The Advertiser in April. The final date for registrations is Tuesday 13 February, so register now at to get your early bird discount, and secure your spot in this year’s History Festival program.
