30 April 2015
Join us in Rundle Mall Thursday April 30 under the Gawler place canopy as we launch this year’s About Time history festival. A program of events will be offered from 10am to 4:30pm including various displays and activities.
May is definitely the month to get excited about history in South Australia with the History Festival set to run from 1 to 31 May 2015. A new mobile App for Apple and Android has been created, to make access to events and program planning even easier. All the event information is available at the tap of a finger. We’ve also upgraded our online planning tools: a much improved ‘Planner’ feature allows you to select the events and sessions you want to go to and can be accessed from multiple devices. Users can enjoy reading the program in hard copy with a cup of tea at home and then whip out their smart phones when on the move. Nothing need stop you exploring history this May.
There is a huge range of events on offer. Whether it’s one of the Bar Yarns sessions that take history into a pub setting, one of the events marking International Museum Day (18 May) or an activity for the whole family, there is sure to be something to excite. There are also plenty of open days, public tours, film screenings, special displays, dances, concerts, kids’ activities, walking tours and bus trips – literally something for everyone.
A feature of this year’s festival is the 80 plus Anzac related events that explore the impact of war on communities all around South Australia. There are Knitting through the War Workshops (p 29) at the Migration Museum, ‘From the Bay to the Battlefield’ (p 53) public art project in the Holdfast Bay area or an Unley Anzac Centenary Parade (p55) to name just a few - plenty of opportunities to reflect upon the First World War.
So come and have a yarn about the festival on Thursday in the Mall, and grab your own copy of the program, then head to the food court for a read.
