History Trust volunteer, Helen, shares some gems from this year's program.
What a wonderful program we have again in 2017, thanks to the dedicated people who run the events, and to Allison and Karen at the History Trust who coordinate the program. Once again we have over 600 events to enjoy and immerse ourselves in.
Whether we live in the city, or the country, the choices are many! And so many different topics – surely something to suit any history enthusiast: maritime history, computers and technology. All kinds of nostalgia and family events. And much more.
I particularly enjoy bus tours with a knowledgeable historian eg. Therese Willis (City of Mitcham) or Denise Schumann (City of Norwood, Payneham & St Peters). The Magical History Tour is a particular favourite - starting at the ETSA Museum at Kurralta Park, and travelling to exciting and interesting (surprising) places. The best day out!!!! This year there are many more including the popular Kings Speech tour, presented by Denise Schumann. The City of Adelaide will conduct an architectural tour of city buildings, and the National Trust is offering a tour of Ayers House then a trip to Anlaby Station. Some are without cost, others have a fee.
From hotels to religion, walking tours, bus tours, exhibitions, special events, food and wine, behind the scenes visits to great buildings, ghosts and colonists, music and entertainment; warm, wonderful people who love to share their knowledge. The History Festival has it all! Don’t miss anything.
