Movers and Shakers in Nineteenth Century Payneham

Historic Payneham Cemetery (City of NPSP Heritage Collection )

This tour will pay tribute to Payneham's history where the movers and shakers influenced civic life from the parliament to the pulpit in the nineteenth century. Hear the stories, visit the homes of the famous, and see their resting places in Payneham Cemetery. This historic cemetery is home to some of South Australia's most important historical identities such as suffragist Elizabeth Webb Nicholls, preacher and activist Serena Thorne Lake, welfare advocate Kate Cocks MBE; and Supreme Court Judge Edward Castres Gwynne, United Labor Party parliamentarian and social reformer the Hon Andrew Kirkpatrick and others.
