Sir Edward Charles Stirling: Centenary of a Stirling Son

The pictorial kaleidoscope of images drawn from private and local collections will illustrate Dr Joy O'Hazy's presentation of the life and times of Sir Edward Charles Stirling – a resident in the township of Stirling, named after his pioneering father Edward Stirling MLC. Locally Sir Edward is remembered as Chairman of the first District Council and as the creator of the St Vigeans mansion, which was surrounded by terraced gardens of European trees and collections of azaleas, camellias and rhododendrons. His broader interests in medical and natural science and anthropology underpinned the development of major institutions in South Australia.
