Women, Church and Community: Networks of Power and Influence

'Women hold up half the sky'. While their influence has often been obscured in historical records, from time to time women’s influence was so remarkable that it had to be recorded publicly. This is the case for three early Largs Bay women in regard to the establishment of Largs Bay Mission Church. This workshop will explore the lives and connections of these women and contextualise them in the South Australian society of the time. Stories of the influence and networks of other South Australian women who enabled civic, religious and community development in this era are also welcome.
