Fables, Fairy Stories and Fantasy: Five Generations of Children’s Books
When William and Sarah Kay arrived in South Australia from northern England in 1850 they brought a love of books and reading. This passed onto their descendants resulting in an extensive and fascinating family library containing over 170 years of publications. Five generations of children’s books, written by both Australian and international authors, have been selected for display. Visitors can contemplate and be surprised how stories and illustrations for children have changed since the 1800s, all while enjoying a taste of fine wine and the best view in McLaren Vale from the comfort of Kay Brothers Cellar Door.
