The Greek Migration Experience: The New Wave of Greek Migrants to Australia

First steps to a new life (OEEGA)

Since the establishment of The Greek Migration Experience, in conjunction with the Oral History Association of Australia, there has been a more recent influx of young Greek migrants within contemporary Australia. The Greek economic crisis in 2009 continues to beset Greece leading to many economic, social and political upheavals.

Unlike the previous generations of the 1950s–60s, contemporary Greek immigrants, being more educated and technologically savvy, have adapted to the new dramatic shift in technology. A range of social media platforms, including blogs, are now commonly used rather than diaries and letters. Dr Maria Palaktsoglou will explore this new wave.
