Willkommen in Australien! Researching German-Australian Families

German settler and his family Rosewood Scrub c. 1880 (State Library of Queensland)

Germans were the largest non-British group of migrants to Australia in the nineteenth century, but issues such as name changes, language barriers and identifying place of origin hold some researchers back. This course, presented by Ben Hollister, will help researchers start the process of finding their German ancestors. Participants are encouraged to bring their laptops or tablets to try activities and resources in the course. Bring along information and documents you have to use in activities. Recommended reference: Introduction to German Family History Research for Australians by Eric Kopittke www.gould.com.au. Course over two half days.
