Online registrations are now open for this year’s About Time: South Australia’s History Festival and Open House AdelaideAbout Time will run for the whole month of May, and History SA is once again expecting hundreds of events to be registered across the state. From new initiatives like Bar Yarns – History in the Pub, to annual favourites like the various talks, tours and exhibitions, it’s a diverse display of our history and the passion of those who collect, curate and present it.

We’re delighted with the community support for About Time, the annual history festival. It just keeps getting bigger and better every year. May in South Australia is definitely History Month,” says History SA’s CEO, Margaret Anderson.

History SA invites all who share their passion for the state’s rich history to get involved – from history and heritage organisations, museums, archives, community and cultural organisations to universities, libraries, schools as well as churches, galleries, businesses, cemeteries, gardens, government agencies and owners of heritage-listed places – all can take part in what is the largest collective community history event in Australia.  If your community has a story to tell and a stake in the state’s history, then it’s ‘About Time’ that we all get to share it.

Or, if you hold the keys to a significant heritage or contemporary building, why not register it as part of Open House Adelaide?   In 2013 over 7000 people participated in this internationally recognised event, when Adelaide’s finest examples of modern as well as heritage architecture were open free of charge to showcase our cutting-edge buildings, sustainable design and engineering.  Open House Adelaide promotes greater awareness and discussion of the built fabric of Adelaide - past, present or future.  Buildings in the Adelaide City Council local government area, or immediately surrounding areas, that can be open to the public, are eligible to register.  Entry must be free. History SA encourages participation from buildings with a story to tell – whether in terms of their heritage, architecture, design & engineering or indeed function.

It costs nothing to be involved in either About Time or Open House Adelaide and History SA lists all events on dedicated websites and also in free printed programs distributed statewide at the start of April.  To discuss potential events call 8203 9888 or email abouttime@history.sa.gov.au.

Post and email registrations close on Friday 31 January; online registrations close on Friday 7 February so register now at www.abouttime.sa.gov.au and www.openhouseadelaide.com.au
